Writing challenge
“Systemic horror, the banality of the uncanny, technology as haunting”
Horror that lives in systems. Not a monster under the bed but something in the recommendation engine, the building management software, the medical records database. Write an opening chapter in which the horror is institutional - something wrong with the machinery of modern life. The scariest part should be how long it takes the protagonist to realise the machine is not broken. It is working exactly as designed.
