Delete your account

Last updated: August 2026

You can delete your Sproker account at any time, yourself, from inside the app. You do not need to email us and we will not ask you why. This page explains how to do it and exactly what happens to your data afterwards.

How to delete your account

  1. Sign in and open Account → Security & data.
  2. Scroll to “Delete account”.
  3. Type DELETE to confirm.

The deletion runs immediately. There is no waiting period and no way to undo it, so export anything you want to keep first. Two exports exist and they are not the same thing: “Export my data” on the same Security & data page downloads a complete machine-readable copy of your account, and each book has its own PDF, ePub and Word export inside the writer. Take both if you want your books as books.

If you cannot sign in - a lost password you cannot reset, an email address you no longer control - write to privacy@sproker.com from any address and tell us which account it is. We will verify that it is yours before deleting anything, which is exactly why this cannot be a form on a public page.

What is deleted

  • Your login, profile, username, avatar and bio.
  • Your stories, chapters, drafts, storybooks and picture books.
  • Your diary and life-story entries, including their photos and audio.
  • Your bedtime stories and the child profiles attached to them.
  • Your comments, reviews, forum and group posts, votes and direct messages.
  • Your reading lists, reading history, XP, badges and notifications.
  • Your uploaded files: cover art, illustrations, avatars and voice recordings.
  • Your email address in our mailing list, so you stop hearing from us.

Any active subscription is cancelled as part of the deletion, before the account is removed. If we cannot reach our payment provider to cancel it, we stop and tell you rather than deleting an account that would keep being charged.

What is kept, and why

A small amount of data outlives the account, because the law requires it or because it is no longer only yours:

  • Invoices and payment records, kept by our payment provider for the period Dutch and EU tax law requires (currently seven years). We cannot delete these while that obligation runs.
  • Copies other people already made. A book somebody bought and downloaded, or a printed copy on a shelf, is theirs and we cannot reach it. Everything on our side goes, including chapters you contributed to shared chain stories - so a chain you wrote in will lose those chapters when you leave.
  • Reports other people filed about your content, and the moderation decisions taken on them, kept as long as we need them to handle appeals and to meet our obligations under the EU Digital Services Act. Reports you filed about other people are deleted with your account.
  • Aggregated, anonymous counts - how many stories exist, how many chapters were written this month. These carry no identifier and cannot be traced back to you.

Timing

Deletion from our live database is immediate. Encrypted backups are kept on a rolling 30-day cycle and are not searchable; anything of yours still present in one is overwritten within 30 days and is never restored into the live service.

One case ends differently, and it is the only one: if we cannot complete the deletion - an unreachable payment provider, or a database constraint we have to look at by hand - nothing is deleted at all and you are told so. A half-deleted account is the outcome the process is built to make impossible.

Other options

If you want less than deletion, you do not have to delete. You can make individual stories private, turn every email off in your notification settings, or export your work and leave the account dormant. Deleting is permanent; the other three are not.

Questions

Our Privacy Policy describes what we collect and on what legal basis, and the sub-processor list names every company that ever holds your data. For anything else, write to privacy@sproker.com.
