PC RUTH CALLOWAY is the sole officer in Dunmore, a market village of six hundred people and thirty-seven farms. On the morning of October 1st, every scarecrow in the valley has been replaced. The new ones are more convincing. They are also facing the houses instead of the fields. By October 3rd, one of them has moved.
